Each client gets their own cPanel login and never sees who owns the underlying server. The hardware, networking, operating system patching and security are handled for you, so you are running a hosting business without running a data centre.
Reseller hosting suits anyone who already builds or manages websites for other people. Web designers and development agencies use it to keep clients on infrastructure they control instead of handing them off to a third party. Freelancers use it to turn one-off project fees into monthly recurring revenue. WHM, or Web Host Manager, is the administrative control panel that sits above cPanel. From WHM you create hosting packages with defined disk, bandwidth, database and email limits, then assign those packages to client accounts. You can suspend or unsuspend accounts, reset passwords, manage DNS zones, install SSL certificates and apply your own branding to the cPanel interface your clients log into. cPanel is what your client sees; WHM is what you use to run the business.
Your margin is the gap between what a reseller plan costs you and what you charge your clients. Because you buy resources in bulk and split them across many accounts, the per-client cost is far lower than buying individual hosting plans.
